Information on the calibration of newly purchased equipment and what it means to you.
Calibration and its certification comes in varying forms on new equipment and in this section, we will break it down into the three areas that we use to classify calibration state at the point of purchase.
Manufacturers Calibration Certificate
This is a calibration certificate offered by the manufacturer supplied with the tester. This is also known as an end-of-line certificate or manufacturer’s certificate. These certificates vary depending on the manufacturer and product. They will not have your company's name on them and don’t always show proven test results.
Where applicable we will include the following statement relating to the item/s on the products page under the heading *Important Calibration Information.
This instrument comes complete with the manufacturer's calibration certificate. Please be aware that these certificates are generic and may also be time-lapsed.
If you would prefer a personalised full traceable calibration certificate applied to the equipment before dispatch, then please select this option from the drop-down menu above, an additional calibration charge will apply.Manufacturers Certificate of Conformity
A manufacturer's certificate of conformity is not a calibration certificate. It is merely a statement that the equipment has been produced to operate within its intended application, it has no traceable certificate or constitutes any defined results for accuracy before leaving the manufacturing process.
Where applicable we will include the following statement relating to the item/s on the products page under the heading *Important Calibration Information.
This instrument comes with a ‘manufacturer's certificate of conformity’. It is important to understand that this does NOT constitute a ‘calibration certificate’. A certificate of conformity merely states that the equipment has been designed and produced to meet the requirements of its intended application.
Where calibration of an instrument is possible we will offer this as a separately purchasable item and may be selected from the drop-down box above. You will be sent a full traceable calibration certificate produced in our laboratory and applied with your details as required.Personalised traceable calibration certificate from isswww
This is a calibration certificate created by us at ISS. This certificate is fully traceable to national and international standards. The certificate will show your company's details, tester information, proven test results and the equipment used to carry out the test. Nearly 90% of all calibrations we do are done in-house in one of our many fully equipped laboratories. You can add this service to your order on the product page before you checkout.
Where applicable we will include the following statement relating to the item/s on the products page under the heading *Important Calibration Information.
We are on occasion able to offer FREE calibration on certain products at their point of sale (newly purchased equipment only) please look out for the following badge on the product's page to take advantage of this free offer.

Test sequences
Insulation Testing
Selectable ranges 250V / 500V and 1000V. The current and voltage are measured and the external resistance is calculated and displayed.
Loop Testing
High current 2 wire test mode enables the user to test the true impedance of both the Line-Neutral Loop and the Line-Earth loop and therefore to establish both the PSC (prospective short circuit current) and the PFC (prospective fault current) for the installation
No trip 3 wire test mode generates a current that is too low to trip an RCD on an otherwise healthy circuit. The No Trip test is a 3-wire test that also checks the Live, Neutral/Earth conductors are correctly connected before running the loop test.
PFC / PSC
The result is displayed by pressing the PFC / PSC button after a loop test (High Current and No Trip)
RCD Testing
Individually selectable 30mA / 100mA / 300mA and 500mA (Type AC/A) and 100mA / 300mA (Type ACS / AS).
30mA Autotest – The unit will conduct all six required tests at a single touch of a button. Then when the RCD under test “trips” reset the RCD and continue to do so until the test procedure is complete. Clear PASS / FAIL indication provided on screen.
Ramp Test – Gradually increases the fault current and identifies the level of additional leakage at which the RCD trips. Useful for diagnostic testing of circuits where nuisance tripping is a problem and helps to identify the difference between an over-sensitive RCD and excessive leakage from poor insulation, or equipment with high leakage.
Phase Rotation
During phase rotation measurement the amplitudes and phase angles of the three inputs L1 L2 L3 are checked against limits, allowing for mild unbalance conditions. The indication 1-2-3 is displayed for normal rotation (L2 lags L1) and 3-2-1 for reverse rotation (L2 leads L1).
Display of Phase rotation is Automatic when all three test leads are connected to the 3-phase supply.
The MFT5000 will display .1 .2 .3 or .3 .2 .1 depending on the direction of phase rotation.
Socket Testing
Perform a quick and easy check of a socket's wiring condition.
Polarity Test Pad
Test for and identify rare reverse polarity (Live ‘Phase’ to earth/neutral and earth/neutral to Live ‘Phase’. A potentially dangerous condition that conventional loop testers may not highlight.
Continuity Test
Establish the resistance of the circuit under test. Lead null function for fast and accurate measurement.
The Socket & See MFT5000 is also available with a custom splash screen, so you can truly make it your own. Add your company logo, contact details, name and even an asset ID to help asset management within your organisation. No need for unsightly and potentially damaging engraving or adhesive labels.
About Socket & See
Through consistent contact with Electricians, Engineers and Gas Installation engineers, Socket & See products have been around since 1998 and are designed with both professional and newly-qualified tradespeople in mind.
We started with 3 simple Socket Testers and a vision to develop a range of ‘easy-to-use’, innovative products which our customers could use straight from the box!
The initial principles still stand firm today, all our products have to be - simple to operate, of great quality, innovative, time-saving and cost-effective.
