Ergonomics:

The rugged, compact CA 6117 is specially designed for quick and effective familiarization. On its large LCD graphical colour display with backlighting, users can view all the crucial results at a glance.

A rotary switch on the instrument’s front panel gives direct access to all the functions. A large number of visual symbols and audio signals help with quick interpretation of the results in accordance with the standards. The on-line contextual help menus can guide the user step by step, if needed. The storage capacity can save up to 1,000 tests. The CA 6117 also has a USB output for data transfer.

Effective Contextual Help:

Guaranteed Safety:

The testers are equipped with a clear, detailed contextual help function.
This makes them ideal for both experts and less experienced users. Dedicated help is available for each measurement, including a guide for
the connections required and assistance for interpretation of the results. For greater safety, the instrument displays an error message to warn users if the tester is incorrectly connected or if a hazardous voltage is present.

Measurements:

The high-performance CA 6117 offers excellent measurement stability, even in disturbed industrial environments. All the measurements needed to test an electrical installation are available: continuity, resistance, insulation, earth and selective earth, loop impedances, type A and AC RCDs. The CA 6117 can also be used to measure voltage, frequency, current via a clamp, active power, harmonics and phase rotation.

The CA 6117 is also fitted with type-B RCD testing, built-in fuse table and voltage-drop feature.
Designed and manufactured in France, the CA 6117 was developed in compliance with eco-design procedures.

3P Earth Measurement

The dedicated Chauvin Arnoux 3P earth kit can be purchased from the drop-down selection above for a specially discounted rate when you buy the CA6117 Multifunction tester.

Correct earthing guarantees user safety and also protects property and installations in the event of lightning or fault currents. It must always be linked to a cut-off device.
There are many different methods for earth measurements and choice of the right one depends on the type of neutral system, the type of installation (domestic, industrial, urban, rural, etc.) and the possibility of cutting off the power supply.
3-pole earth measurement using 2 auxiliary stakes (also known as the 62 % method) is the earth measurement of reference which yields a precise resistance value for the earth electrode. As it is performed with the power off, this is the only earth measurement possible on an installation which has not yet been hooked up to the electrical power distribution network or which is no longer connected to it.
Once the cables have been connected, implementation is particularly simple. All you have to do is set the rotary switch to RE 3P, press test and read off the result. Users can choose the test mode: quick or expert. In expert mode, the resistance values of the auxiliary stakes RS and RH are also measured.

Harmonics:

The tester can measure harmonics up to the 50th order and displays the graph.
The THD-F, THD-R and voltage values are displayed simultaneously, along with the name of the line selected and its amplitude.
In this mode, users can choose between FFT analysis of the voltage or the current and display with a linear or logarithmic scale.

Phase Rotation:

On a three-phase network, this measurement can be used to check the phase sequence on the network.
The tester checks the frequency of the 3 signals and then compares them to detect their sequence (negative or positive).

Power Analyser Mode:

The dedicated Chauvin Arnoux C177A power analyser clamp can be purchased from the drop-down selection above for a specially discounted rate when you buy the CA6117 Multifunction tester.

In the modern workplace electricians must deal with an array of complex array of work and equipment, by having high spec equipment , such as the CA6117 multi-function tester,  they can be prepared for every eventuality encountered. Many MFTs prove sufficient for basic safety testing, but when it comes to fault finding, commissioning and diagnostics,  advanced MFTs like the CA6117 come into their own by providing everything the modern electrician needs in one product.

The CA6117 can display voltage, and, by using the optional current clamp, current waveforms while also displaying both peak (max) and RMS values. This proves useful in identifying any waveform distortion, possibly from harmonics or other sources. Power can also be displayed with direction indication for imported or exported power, ideal where microgeneration such as PV systems are present. Power Factor can be measured and seen on the graphical display. These features are essential for those working in modern electrical systems with capacitive, inductive and non-linear loads present. The ability to see these values in real-time assists in quickly diagnosing issues within the installation or supply. They are also essential when configuring or testing equipment such as power factor correction capacitor banks.

Using the voltage input and optional current clamp, the CA6117 has the ability to accurately measure and display Voltage and Current Harmonics up to the 50th harmonic order, performance typically only seen on dedicated power quality analysers or loggers. All modern electrical installations contain non-linear loads which generate harmonics.
These harmonics can cause many issues within installations, such as the overheating and premature failure of equipment. The only way to identify the underlying cause of these issues is by using a meter such as the CA6117 or an expensive power quality analyser or logger. The CA6117 has the ability to display Total Harmonic Distortion (THD), a simple measure of the amount of harmonics present. It can also show each of the 50 individual harmonics in graphical or numerical form. This powerful feature allows the electrician to identify specific harmonic issues and also check the effectiveness of harmonic mitigation measures, such as active harmonic filters.

A stand-out feature of the CA 6117 is its ultra-accurate Earth Fault Loop Impedance (Zs) measurement capability. Unlike most MFTs on the market, the CA 6117 is able to measure Zs to three decimal places and test lead resistance can also be nulled in Zs mode. In heavy duty installations or where working on installations close to the supply transformer, Zs values can be very low. To measure such low values, which are beyony the meaningful range of most MFTs, electricians may have to buy a expensive specialist stand-alone loop tester, but not with the CA 6117 which can measure these values using its normal high current Zs range.

Analysis of the results:

The measurements made with the CA 6117 can be processed by the DataView® multi-product expert processing software. DataView® automatically recognizes the instrument when it is connected to the PC and opens the corresponding menu. By means of a tree structure, it offers users direct access to the data recorded in the instrument, its configuration, etc.

It is equipped with multiple predefined report templates which comply with the standards' requirements.
Users can also create their own templates, as required.

Delivered as standard, the ICT software offers the following functions for quick, simplified analysis of the recorded measurements: recovery of the data, configuration of the instrument, customization of measurement campaigns with transfer into the instrument and generation of reports.
